MOON MARS ASPECTS IN SYNASTRY
The Moon in the natal chart represents the inner feelings that we don't show to everyone, our emotional needs. The Moon is a crucial planet when assessing compatibility, because when we interact intimately with someone we do so through our Moon. In a man's chart the Moon can also signify what he looks for in a wife.
Mars is the planet of drive (including sex drive), action, passion and similar to the Ascendant can also symbolize our physical body and mannerisms (the way we act, the way we move, our tics). It also shows what irritates and angers us.
Both the Moon and Mars are planets that we most of the times act out unconsciously (especially the Moon). When we have a Moon - Mars contact in synastry, we can see how someone's spontaneous actions and behavior affect another person's emotional world and how a person's emotional patterns impact the other's way of acting.
These contacts in synastry can easily make or break a relationship because both planets can be hard to be brought into the complete control of consciousness. When we get angry (Mars) we usually react in the moment and when we are feeling sad we struggle to hide it and we may even start crying. Of course in professional or superficial relationships we may be capable of hiding and controlling this behavior, but in an intimate relationship these spontaneous instincts and emotions, however we try to sweep them under the rug, usually come out and if suppressed for to long they explode.
MOON CONJUNCT MARS SYNASTRY
When the Moon of one partner conjuncts the Mars of the other, one person's emotional needs sync up with the other person's drive. The Moon person can be supportive of the action that the Mars takes and most times approves of these actions. The sensitive part of this aspect is that the emotional wellbeing of one partner (the one that holds the Moon) will likely be impacted by the actions that the Mars partner takes and this could be a source of positive emotions for the Moon, like passion and enthusiasm or it could cause the Moon to feel irritated and angry. In this relationship it is the Moon person that is mostly affected. Mars can also feel angered or thwarted in their pursuits by the Moon's emotional reactions, but he can easily get over it and move on with other things. The Moon partner can be generally a very calm and rational person, but when the Mars person activates this conjunction, those traits maybe put aside in favor of more emotional responses.
Because the Moon represents our subconscious self and our childhood wounds, contacts to the Moon by a malefic like Mars, Pluto, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, even easy aspects can reemerge childhood trauma and make as have irrational emotional responses. In the conjunction, there usually is an instinctive agreement (because Mars and Moon are not intellectual or communicative planets) and Mars actually can cater to the emotional needs of the Moon. When the two come together, the result is immediate emotional passion (water and fire), which is hard to be surpassed by any other aspect. This aspect can also be volatile and even violent if the two people are not used to controlling their instinctive sides. Because of these characteristics some astrologers consider this a hard aspect (functioning similar to a square). People who share this conjunction can sometimes feel warmer when their partner s around.
Depending on how it is illuminated by the Sun, the Moon has its phases/ cycles (new moon to full moon), that is why it is associated with the female reproductive system. Mars also represents sex drive, the masculine principle and symbolizes the phallus. That is why this conjunction is known as the ”baby making aspect”, and to have a perfect correlation between anatomy and planetary symbols, it is considered best that the woman holds the Moon and the man holds the Mars. But I've noticed relationships last longer when the woman is the Mars and the man is the Moon, because to make a relationship work men need to be involved not only sexually but also emotionally (an exception being Mars in Cancer and maybe in some other water signs).
When the woman is the Moon, her basic femininity is what attracts the Mars, and the man's masculine traits is what makes the woman receptive. But because the difference between the yin and yang is so major, the woman can come off as clingy, over-emotional, extremely sensitive and codependent to the man and the man can come off as rude, egotistical, brash and even as a bully to the woman. Because it is instinctive, the sexual attraction here can last very long, even when the people's physical looks go down. The danger here is in the volatility and possible conflicts (especially in the home - Moon), but this is more prevalent with the square and opposition.
When the woman is the Mars and the man is the Moon, things can be more balanced. But, although more balanced, this aspect works only in particular situations which I will detail. As I said men need to be involved both sexually (with their Mars) and emotionally (with their Moon) in a relationship to make it work. Also a woman needs her Moon touched in synastry if she is to feel receptive and maternal. In my observation, men who chose female partners with whom they have this contact (their Moon with her Mars) usually have Moon in aspect to Mars in their natal chart. So when the woman is aspecting their Moon, she is also aspecting his Mars. Also, because of this aspect in the natal, his idea of a woman has some martian characteristics (assertive, bold, active, energetic). And to give a famous example, take French president Macron and wife Brigitte. His Moon in Taurus is conjuncting her Mars in Taurus. He has Moon in Taurus square Mars in Leo in his natal chart (his ideal woman would have the Mars characteristics I just spoke of). Very interesting is that her feminine planets Moon and Venus are also ruled by Mars, being in the sign of Aries.
1. MOON CONJUNCT MARS IN ARIES
In this synastry placement Mars, being in its own home sign has more power than the Moon. The way Mars takes the initiative and acts with confidence, makes the Moon person feel safe. Even if Mars may be more individualistic the Moon person understands Mars's actions on an emotional and intuitive plane, feeling familiar in the presence of Mars. Aries Moon needs excitement and activity to feel emotionally fulfilled and the Mars person can provide this to the Moon person
2. MOON CONJUNCT MARS IN TAURUS
Here the Moon is exalted and Mars is weaker (Taurus being ruled by the passive Venus). The emotional stability of the Moon in Taurus helps Mars in Taurus be more calm and steady (traits that Mars struggles with) when taking action. Because Taurus is focused on material possessions people who have this combination can build wealth together.
3. MOON CONJUNCT MARS IN GEMINI
