What does the Sun represent?

Sun represents the ego, the conscious self, the identity we have created for ourselves. It is the masculine (yang) principle within us. Sun can also represent our father, or the idea we have of authority. In a woman's chart, the Sun can also signify her husband. The Sun rules over Leo and the 5th house, that is why it can also show how we shine in the world, what we are proud of, our accomplishments our vitality and what brings us joy. Because many people nowadays consider the career the place where they put all their vital energy and the most significant accomplishment in their lives, Sun can show the profession one chooses. If you were born during the day, the Sun is more dominant in your chart than the moon.

The Sun has dignity in the sign of domicile (Leo) in the exaltations sign (Aries) and the remaining Fire sign of Sagittarius. Dignity means it does well in the sign because the characteristics of the sign align with the traits of the planet. Leo is the joyous sign of creativity and courage while Aries is the sign of individuality and initiation, both being in harmony with what the Sun represents. The sun is afflicted in its detriment sign of Libra and in its sign of fall Aquarius. Libra is preoccupied with others and the identity is often sacrificed in the name of collaboration and Aquarius is focused on the group forsaking yet again the ego.

What does the Descendant represent?

The Descendant is the cusp of the 7th house (the house of partnership) and it is opposing the Ascendant (the rising). While the Ascendant is our personality, image, physical body, the Descendant represents the other, things we lack and seek to gain when we partner up with someone else. The sign in which the Descendant falls (along with other planets such as Venus, Moon, Jupiter) bring clues as to what we find attractive in a relationship partner. Ideally, for the sake of not falling in codependent dynamics we can learn to integrate traits in our personality resembling the opposite sign from the Ascendant. Usually this is achieved after a relationship with someone who exhibits the characteristics of the Descendant. Because the 7th house is also the house of open enemies, another alternative is to suppress completely in ourselves the traits associated with the sign that the Descendant falls in, deeming them ”bad”.

Sun conjunct Descendant

The identity and ego of the Sun person is blending perfectly with what the Descendant person considers the ideal romantic/ platonic partner. This aspect gives the feeling of ”you complete me” to  the Descendant person, and they might feel as if something is missing from their life when the Sun person is not around. The Sun person could ”shine a light” on the traits that the Descendant person wishes to integrate in their personality. This is a good aspect for marriage (or any cooperative partnership) for the Descendant person. The Sun person can be proud of being seen in this light by the Descendant person (if the Sun is not receiving negative aspects by malefics from the Descendant person). The Descendant person is usually more affected (because the angles in a birth chart are like antenna that receive energy) and can have a tendency to be codependent on the Sun person
