SUN MARS ASPECTS IN SYNASTRY. GENERAL
Mars is the planet of action, drive and ambition. It also represents libido and sex, and shows what turns us on but also what irritates and makes us angry. Similar to the Ascendant, the Sun can show some of our physical traits and Mars can indicate how we move our physical body, our mannerisms and tics.
The Sun is the conscious self, the ego, the identity, how we want the world to see us and what makes us special.
In a woman's chart, Mars and the Sun represent what she finds masculine and she may seek those traits in a male partner. When Mars or the Sun are aspected in synastry by planets of a male partner, she may project on to him the characteristics of these two masculine planets, especially if she is more in touch with her Moon or Venus. In a man's chart Mars and Sun are more "owned" and more integrated in the way the man acts and displays himself.
Both Sun and Mars are planets concerned with the ego and personal gratification. If the Mars or the Sun is placed in Libra, or any of the water signs the individualism of these two planets may be reduced.
SUN CONJUNCT MARS IN SYNASTRY
When one person's Mars is in a conjunction to the other person's Sun we see a merging of drive and ego between two people. The actions the Mars person takes have the purpose of gaining what the other has already integrated in their identity. The Sun person can be a source of inspiration for the Mars person, so that the later can try harder to achieve what the Sun person already has. Mars could admire the Sun person but there could also be competition between them. The Sun can have an energizing effect on Mars and can give them motivation. The efforts Mars makes can make the Sun feel happy and joyous.
Mars represents our sex drive. The person holding the Mars could be sexually attracted to the Sun person if this is an intimate partnership. Mars is the one that does the pursuing in this relationship. The Sun doesn't do much but be themselves and be flattered that the Mars is interested in them.
Mars also shows what gets us angry and what we find annoying and irritating. The egotistical displays of the Sun can sometimes irritate the Mars person, but this is more prevalent in the hard aspects. Sun can sometimes act like an authority in the relationship and that could get on the Mars person's nerves.
SUN TRINE MARS IN SYNASTRY
The trine is an easy aspect. It means energy flows well between the planets involved. When the Sun of one person forms a trine to the other person's Mars, there is an approval between the identity and ego of one person and the actions and drive of the other person. We can assist each others actions and achievements in the world without effort, although they may not be exactly the same.
The Sun just by being themselves and shining their creative light can help the Mars take action and the Mars can support through their actions the achievements that the Sun prides itself with.
This has the least amount of irritation and competition because we are not chasing the same goal. It s like helping someone jump over a fence by giving them a lift.
This one has less sexual attraction than the conjunction or square/ opposition but it is still there. The energizing effect is still felt, but we don't notice it that much. This generally is a very good aspect in a partnership where we are trying to achieve some worldly goal together.
